Flawed premise

Flawed premise

I finished reading Extreme Programming Adventures in C# by Ron Jeffries. I did get a few things out of the book, but I think the premise was flawed.

Jeffries tries to show how one can learn while doing. He jumps into a project in C# with very little C# or .NET experience. Reading his trials is almost painful. He could have saved himself a lot of frustration by spending a few days with a good tutorial.

He’s right that you have to write real code and make some mistakes in order to learn. I’d rather take some swimming lessons before diving off the deep end, though.

There are some great quotes in the book, but I can’t recommend it. I’m glad I bought it used.
